Veterans for a Strong America Applauds US House Vote to Establish the Benghazi Select Committee

Committee Will Conduct Full Investigation into Deaths of Four Americans at Hands of Terrorists

(SOIUX FALLS) – The nation’s leading organization of Iraq and Afghanistan veterans today praised House Speaker John Boehner and the US House of Representatives for last night’s historic vote to form the Benghazi Select Committee.  The select committee will conduct a full and thorough investigation into the September 11, 2012 attacks in Benghazi, Libya that left four Americans dead, including US Ambassador Christopher Stevens. Veterans for a Strong America (VSA) Chairman Joel Arends said, “The Benghazi attacks took place 417 days ago, and for every single one of those days two things has happened: the American people have called for the truth to be known, and the White House and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have coordinated a campaign of disinformation in order to prevent that truth from being discovered.”  Clinton’s testimony about Benghazi last year was widely panned, due in part to Clinton’s assertion that the facts surrounding Benghazi were irrelevant. The creation of the select committee, which includes seven republicans and five democrats, and will be chaired by Congressman Trey Gowdy (R-SC), marks a significant step forward in the search for answers.  Said Arends, “Last night’s vote changes the dynamic, and from this day forward the American people have an invaluable new ally in the fight for justice. That ally is the Benghazi Select Committee.” The vote to form the committee ran largely along party lines with all republicans voting for the committee, and all but seven democrats voting against its creation.  Some national democrats, including Democrat National Committee Chair Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL), are calling for a boycott of the committee in an effort to politicize its goals before it even begins.  Arends added, “VSA has been leading from the front on the issue of Benghazi since September 12, 2012.  We will continue to decry any political gamesmanship that dishonors the memories of those Americans who lives were lost in service to the nation during that terror attack.” About Veterans for a Strong America:  Veterans for a Strong America is an Iraq and Afghanistan veterans organization dedicated to mobilizing Americans to communicate the importance of a robust national defense and ensuring that America remains a strong nation by advancing liberty, safeguarding freedom and opposing tyranny.
